Poland is a large country with a rich history, a vibrant culture, and welcoming people. Thanks to recent efforts in internationalization, Poland is attracting ever more students from abroad. The country offers world-class education at modest tuition fees and a remarkably affordable cost of living.

A brief introduction to Poland

Located in Central Europe, Poland borders Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, and Russia (via its Kaliningrad exclave).

Warsaw, Poland’s capital and largest city, is a modern, exciting hub with many universities offering a wide range of courses. Other major university cities include Cracow, Poznan, Lodz and Wroclaw.

Studying at a university in Poland

Higher education in Poland has a history dating back nearly 800 years, and the country is home to over 400 institutions – many of which now also offer study programs in English.

Jagiellonian University in Cracow is Poland’s oldest university, founded in 1364, and is the alma mater of astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus, Pope John Paul II, and two Nobel laureates. Poland’s largest university is the University of Warsaw. Founded in 1816, it too has an impressive list of alumni, including Israel’s first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion and celebrated composer Frédéric Chopin.

Poland’s higher education system is also known for its specialized technical institutions. They educated tens of thousands of specialists every year in subjects like engineering or computer science. Warsaw University of Technology and AGH University of Science and Technology enjoy an exceptional standing in international rankings, and there are many other fine institutions you can choose from.

And if you are seeking a degree in medicine, medical schools in Poland are known for their world-class education. Among the best-ranked are the Medical University of Silesia and the Medical University of Warsaw.

Living in Poland as a student

Studying in Poland is attractive not only academically, but also for the high quality of life available there. The country’s economy has grown dramatically over the past 20 years. It is modern, clean, and safe, and offers all of the social and cultural opportunities available elsewhere, but at a cost of living still much lower than in Western Europe, and international students are flocking there.

Tuition fees and cost of living

Poland is an attractive destination for students. International students can study at public universities in Poland at an average cost of 2,000 EUR per year for a first degree, while fees for higher degrees and vocational programs average at 3000 EUR per year.

Poland’s cost of living is also surprisingly low and in fact lower than in most other European countries. A place in a student dormitory may cost less than 100 EUR per month for a shared room. Overall, depending on the city on what lifestyle you desire, you might get by on less than 500 EUR per month.

Visegrad grant

had been awarded a prestigious grant by the International Visegrad Fund for the implementation of the project entitled: ‘Enhancing academic mobility in the field of Visegrad Studies in the V4, EU EaP, and Western Balkans’.

Project implementation period: 20.09.2019 – 29.09.2023.

The grant provides scholarships for students admitted to the ‘Joint International MA in International Relations: Europe from Visegrad Perspective’ program in the academic years 2019/20, 2020/21, 2021/22.

Scholarships are awarded for the whole duration of the 2-years program and cover the following:

tuition fee
mobility costs in the amount of 2 300 EUR per semester.

Eligible to get funded are students, who are nationals of the following countries:

Visegrad Group (Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia), and
EU Eastern Partnership and Western Balkans (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia, and Herzegovina, Kosovo).
Scholarships are awarded to the best-ranked students enrolled for the program in the respective academic year.
The selection criterion for scholarship award is the best record obtained during the admission procedure conducted jointly by all Partner Universities for the respective group in the cohort.

Call for scholarships for the academic year 2021/22

In the academic year of 2021/22, 4 scholarships will be awarded for the duration of the study program.

Eligibility:

3 scholarships will be granted to citizens of Visegrad Group countries (i.e. Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, or the Czech Republic)
1 scholarship will be granted to a citizen of one of the following countries:
1. Armenia,
2. Azerbaijan,
3. Belarus,
4. Georgia,
5. Moldova,
6. Ukraine,
7. Northern Macedonia,
8. Montenegro,
9. Serbia,
10. Albania,
11. Bosnia, and Herzegovina,
12. Kosovo

Study in Poland scholarships amount:

Scholarships are awarded for the whole duration of the 2-years program and cover the following:

tuition fee
mobility costs in the amount of 2 300 EUR per semester.

Application timeline:

Submit your application by 17 June 2021 (Applicants for the scholarship must also submit an application for the program at the online OAS system (1st admission round: deadline 7 April 2021; 2nd admission round: deadline 14 June 2021)).
Scholarship interviews on 21 June 2021
Evaluation finishes by 23 June 2021
Results announcements by 23 June 2021
Results will be announced on the grant webpage: https://v4.uj.edu.pl/visegrad-grant. Selected students will also be informed via e-mail.
Selected students sign a ‘Scholarship Agreements’ by 15 July 2021
