English requirements

When you apply to Lancaster University Bachelors program 2022/2023, you will need to prove your English proficiency.

  • They accept IELTS. The general minimum IELTS score for Bachelors’s degrees is 6.5 overall.
  • TOEFL iBT. The general minimum TOEFL score for Bachelors’s degrees is 72 overall.
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE). The general minimum score for Bachelors’s degrees is 51 overall.

Description for Lancaster University Bachelors program 2022:

Computer science is a vast but specialized subject; as a result, our degree equips you with the technical and professional skills necessary to apply yourself to a broad range of careers. Our UK graduates have gone on to work with major technology companies such as IBM, Google, BBC, and BAE, while others have chosen to take their software design, development, and management skills to SMEs, or have set up their own technology-centric businesses. Many of our computer scientists also elect to study for MSc or Ph.D. qualifications.

In the first year, you will receive a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles of the discipline, combined with their modern-day application. Throughout your study, you will gain skills and experience from a range of modules, including Software Development, Information Systems, and Digital Systems. Taking a practical approach to learning, you are encouraged to build and analyze systems and software, as well as work with end-user feedback to refine and adapt solutions.

After gaining an overview of the subject in the first year, you will be motivated by topics that become progressively deeper and more specialized as your skills develop throughout the second and third year. In addition to progressing your foundational understanding, programming, and software design skills, you will explore social, ethical, and professional issues, giving you an experience of computing in the real world. Your final year gives you the opportunity to explore a range of well-constructed and enriching modules, as well as undertaking an individual project with one of our academics, allowing you to use and further develop the skills acquired throughout your degree.

Description:

In this pre-Bachelor program, you will enter the International Foundation Year and are guaranteed progression to the first year of the Computer Science BSc (Hons) the following September (if you meet the required criteria).

The educational aims of the program are to:

  • Develop students’ fundamental knowledge and understanding of the relevant disciplinary elements in computer science and related fields.
  • Develop in students a broad range of transferable academic literacy, research, and analytical skills to succeed in undergraduate study.
  • Ensure that students have attained the prescribed level of English language competence to succeed in the specified Lancaster University undergraduate program.
    To prepare students to operate effectively and autonomously within the framework of higher education.
  • A develop students’ graduate attributes to optimize future employability prospects in a global environment.

What to know about the Software Engineers

Are programming architects, who apply computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to the design and development of large, complex, and critical software systems.

Our program provides you with a comprehensive grounding in computer science, while equipping you with the specialist skills required for a profession in software engineering and design. You will gain the technical knowledge and experience to manage and develop high-quality, well-designed software systems, along with an understanding of business and system requirements. This program is accredited by the British Computing Society (BCS) and the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Based around our dedicated Software Engineering Design Studio, your first year will provide you with the fundamentals of computer science, software development, and digital and information systems, allowing you to gain the essential knowledge needed for analysis and design. You will also begin to develop complex computer programming skills, learning to write, analyze, debug, test, and document computer programs.

However, Your second and third years offer advanced modules, including Distributed Systems, Human-Computer Interaction, and Languages and Compilation. In addition to developing your foundational understanding, programming, and software design skills, you will explore social, ethical, and professional issues related to the discipline and will complete a group project. These will allow you to develop the working knowledge and skills to overcome the challenges of designing, developing, and evaluating real-world software systems.

You will also undertake a variety of software design-based modules, ensuring you gain a broad and robust level of skills and experience. These projects will develop your data analysis, graphical, report writing, and presentation skills.
